Steel Fabrication

Steel fabrication is a process most people probably never think of. Anyone who uses computers, electronic components, electrical boxes, appliances, or rides in a vehicle is taking advantage of at least one of many benefits offered by steel fabrication. Steel is one of the most commonly used materials in sheet metal fabrication. It is extremely strong and versatile when it comes to practical applications. Steel is relatively inexpensive compared to other sheet metals as well, such as titanium. It is a ferrous type of metal, meaning that it can be magnetized. 
 

Steel is created when iron is combined with carbon, changing the molecular structure to something that is incredibly strong, resists oxidation, and has a higher tensile strength than its original metal. Combined with other elements such as vanadium or chromium, the strength and hardness levels are altered further, allowing steel to reach levels of high corrosion resistance as well as incredible properties of flexibility, malleability, and toughness.  
 

Steel has a vast array of applications due to the variability of its structural properties. It is lightweight in comparison to other metals, very strong, and especially forgiving when it comes to the fabrication process where it’s molded into the shape it needs to take.

Steel can be fabricated in many ways. Steel can be taken from its raw stock form, depending on the type and grade, or it can be hot or cold rolled into sheets, which in turn are used in sheet metal fabrication. Steel is also tempered in different ways to improve its qualities as needed, with hardness and flexibility being the most affected.

Cutting/burning: From lasers to plasma cutting torches, heat can cut, warp, shape, and further temper steel.

 

Forming: Through intense pressure, steel can be rolled into just about any desired shape without compromising its structural integrity.

 

Machining: Steel can be machined with dies, lathes, presses, drills, acid etching, grinding, or other methods.

 

Welding: Fusing steel to steel or other metals is an ancient invention, taking two pieces of metal and fusing them together with intense heat, bonding them at the molecular level permanently. Today, it can be done with such precision, from arc welding to plasma welding, that it has become crucial to fabrication.

 

Final assembly: Once your component is built, it will be tested for strength, functionality, and precision by our highly trained and dedicated staff.
